This is the top of the beat rate perception first page.
This page is test your beat rate perception. Read this first before you try to do this, or if you already know how to do this, skip all this stuff and just use the link list command, which is insert plus F 7, and remember to close the media player each time by pressing alt plus F 4. If you are using firefox you may also have to do alt plus F 4 to close the download manager window, each time.
The following pages will let you hear some beat rates. In these tests the beats are isolated, in other words you will not be listening to complete piano tones, so the beats will be easy to hear.
The purpose of the tests is to become familiar with distinguishing between beat rates. The tests are not about being right or wrong, or succeeding or failing the tests. They are designed purely to enhance your ability to judge beat rates, and to practice critical listening, by hearing beat rates.
If you are accessing this test on the internet, then each time a page is visited, the sample beat rates to choose from, are likely to be different, or in a different order, because the order is randomly generated. So, unconscious cheating is not possible, and the tests can be carried out effectively, again and again.
Remember that any beat has both a beat rate and an amplitude. Both the beat rate itself, and the beat amplitude, may affect your perception of the beat rate. In these tests, which are elementary, the amplitudes and the beat rates for any given beat, remain constant.
When you hear a page start, it is best to stop Jaws reading automatically by pressing control. Then navigate yourself up or down the page using the arrow buttons. To hear a sample beat rate again, press control P. After you have finished listening to the beat rate, press Alt F four to close the media player.
